Santa Monica and Venice are spotty today. Things are looking a bit walled out at the Breakwater, and the drift is going crazy north. Look out surfers, it’s summer swell season in LA!
These big conditions are a good opportunity to practice your duck dives! When I was just a little grom, I saw strong and hard to manage conditions as an opportunity to get better at the fundies. Duck diving is a huge part of any surfer’s game on big days. For those very beginners with a foamie, don’t try and paddle past the break (haha). Get on those pop-ups! If you can do it in strengthened white water, you can do it when conditions settle again.
